Scale: 1:20 The centerpiece of the new Capitol Visitor Center in Washington D.C., this 14-foot tall exhibit features the world’s largest and most accurate model of the United States Capitol Dome. Highlights include the fully touchable exterior surface, perfectly rendered paintings, friezes, and frescoes, dynamic LED lighting, and unparalleled architectural detail. Created entirely from historic drawings and photographs, the dome was first digitally constructed piece by piece using sophisticated computer rendering software. It was then “grown” in stereo lithography machines, cast into parts, and assembled around a steel skeleton. This model is on permanent display inside the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.
The project has both a physical model and digital renderings.
